As we begin the year, we are launching our Reader's Workshop. We are polishing our skills at finding "just-right" books, as well as learning how not to abandon books.
We are learning the difference between retelling, summarizing and paraphrasing. We are improving our inferencing skills by learning to "read between the lines" as well as make connections between different parts of a story. Finally we will work on developing our "mind movies" when reading stories and visualizing the scenes described in the text.
Our year has by linking our writing to what we are reading. Student's are reflecting through their writing on the ideas that we are teaching in our reader's workshop.
In addition to writing about our reading, we have had some fun with drawing prompts that we have also created some imaginative stories with.
Our school-wide focus is one writing this year, so as we continue we are looking forward to developing some great writers.
